The Speedmaster CD 74, The Packaging Artist

Fast makeready and stable production, innovative technology and simple operation.

While target groups are being addressed with increasing precision, product diversity is growing and individual run lengths are dwindling. This trend toward more highly customized packages is what makes the business of packaging printing in the flexible mid-size format attractive today. The prerequisite is a fast, easy-to-operate press that lets us turn jobs around fast enough for just-in-time delivery.

High-quality packages

The market for folding boxes and labels has a rosy future. High -quality packages provide room for communicating the identity of brand-name articles, are economical to produce, and are aligned with current trends owing to their recyclability.

The Speedmaster CD 74 fits perfectly

It was specifically developed for mid-size format packaging printing with short runs from the experience Heidelberg has gained with the successful 40" Speedmaster CD102 in the packaging market. 29" format is ideal for packages printed in multiple-ups where the individual image copies are small: cosmetics, pharmaceutical, sweets and labels.

For work of this kind, the packaging format 23.5"x29" often lets you fit one more row of image copies onto the sheet. Mid-size format also offers benefits for finishing. It takes considerably less time to get the diecutters ready, and the tooling is less expensive and easier to handle.

The CD 74 meets all of the prerequisites for extremely fast, competitive production. Together with the characteristic Speedmaster attributes and Heidelberg's competence as a global provider of solutions and service, it is the ideal production engine for innovative packaging.

Short Run Packaging

Lot sizes in short-run packaging are often smaller than 10,000 mid-size format sheets. Fast makeready is therefore the crucial criterion for success.

To achieve this, the CD 74 offers more than just a complete automation package, including Presets. With the CP2000 Center and prepress Interface, sending ink settings from pre-Press to the press, it can be seamlessly integrated into digital work flow, thus letting us tap the principal potentials for speeding makeready.

Quality requirements in packaging are very high. Every market segment has its particular needs. In the case of cosmetics packages, it is often essential to precisely reproduce color hues. Pharmaceutical packages are also being designed more elaborately to support the trend toward off-the-shelf sales. The CD 74 offers the best print quality and reliability for these packaging applications.

The perfect size

The perfect size of the CD 74 will enable us to print 6 up 8.5"x11" or 2 up 6 page (11"x25.5") brochure. The speed, quality and productivity of our CD 74 fully digital press is ready to meet all of the challenges involved in successful printing production.
